The Art House Residency: Joey Chin & Buhle Wonder Mbambo

Joey Chin and Buhle Wonder Mbambo

Published: 02 November 2018

Singapore-based artist Joey Chin and South Africa-based artist Buhle Wonder Mbambo were the Artists in Residence at The Art House from September to November 2018. This is the first major residency and exhibition in the UK for both artists which has been co-funded by The Royal Over-Seas League.

We've been commissioned by The Art House to make a film about Joey and Buhle's residency and have been spending time with both artists as they complete a new body of work for a final exhibition at The Art House.

Joey Chin's practice includes collecting second-hand books which contain hand-written inscriptions. Through these texts she explores the narratives of a bygone era and the hidden histories of their previous owners.

Buhle Wonder Mbambo's painting practice is concerned with his Zulu culture and heritage and how this relates to growing up in 21st century South Africa.

Joey and Buhle's exhibition takes place at The Art House and runs until 21 December 2018.

The films will be online shortly.
