Artist Statement

I use the mediums of video and sound to express the characteristics of our present technological age. What appeals to me about these mediums is the instantaneity of capturing something as it happens even if it is mundane and gives the appearance of nothing happening? Reality is very different. There is always something occurring. Taking the time to observe human behaviour it is evident that although we all look different in terms of body shapes, socially we follow similar paths. It is about capturing a moment in time and Ross (2006) clarifies this by stating, 'newness, intimacy, immediacy, involvement, and a sense of the present tense are all characteristics of the medium'. Using video and sound as a means of  inspiration highlights the importance that audio and moving image has on me as an artist and having the ability to manipulate footage, audio and record a moment in time is what I aim to achieve as a contemporary artist. Technology is what I am most comfortable with so give me a computer, a video camera or an audio recorder over a paint brush and I am happy. That is all!!
