Artist Statement

Myles Mansfield is fascinated by the architectural environment, and the way it evidences the traces those that built and used the buildings in the past.

By using collage and paint, Myles make statements about the historical aspects of buildings and to interpret their contemporary position in our culture. Myles feels that the use of collage with the painted surface creates a contemporary dynamic, that through the added context of the collage, greater subtleties of visual communication can be achieved.

As well as this, Mansfield carries out investigations of historical masterpieces by recreating them, using contemporary models and techniques to understand how their context and connotations have changed within the 21st century.
