Jackie’s current work focuses on the many facets of human behaviour, in particular the
subtle nuances of body language – the tilted heads, twisted bodies and small involuntary
signals signifying elements of power, control, vulnerability or openness. From the kindest of
gestures to sinister acts of Machiavellian treachery she is interested creating a theatre
where the viewer can interpret clues and props according to their own experiences.
Inspiration is wide and varied and includes dramas, medieval paintings, 20th century
monologues, space travel and bric-a-brac. Visits to the National Gallery have been
particularly rewarding, especially seeing the 'San Sepalcro Altarpiece' by Sansetta . Berridge
has embraced the architectural qualities, iconography and interesting perspectives of this
painting, juxtaposing these elements with more gestural and expressive mark making in her
own work.
