Invisibilities Part II: Museum of Somerset2017
This is a second version of my installation, this time at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton.
I have been inspired by the former industries of Chard - from agriculture and lacemaking to the collar factories and to highlight the often-invisible histories and contributions made by women through the generations.
I have chosen to work with different types of netting fabric to allude to the history of the local lace factories. The wall of smock arms makes reference to the hundreds of women who worked in the lace factories.
The harvest figures reference themes of the body, the machine and rural traditions, the net skirts are embedded with hay, dried grasses and lavender.
