Digital sound and ceramic sculpture

The work combines symmetry and sound, using the relationship between destructive and generative processes in the context of evolutionary theory and sacred art: as a means to expressing the fluid roles science and religion play in our view of ourselves as individuals, and a species, in the midst of a world that keeps extending far beyond our reach in all sorts of ways.

The sound includes three major elements: sounds recorded during the making of the sculpture embedded in the ceramic structure and emitting out of the plate-like extremities; sounds of the destruction of an unfired replica which lies at the base of the fired sculpture; recorded vocalisations in response to the site of a redundant rural church.
